What is THE GARAGE?

THE GARAGE is a community center / music venue operated by the City of Burnsville. It is a safe environment where teenagers can excel! It strives to be a place where young people can just be themselves and have access to the resources and tools they need to accomplish their goals. Young people want to do extraordinary things, but for kids with interests in creative arts, music and dance, the world often leaves them without a place to excel; a place where they can get the encouragement and support they need to do the great things we know they are capable of.

THE GARAGE focuses on enriching teenagers’ lives by expanding their skills and encouraging them to share their talents, give service, and be creative. This is done by adult and teen partnerships to share in planning events, running the programs, handling the finances, and deciding how to make THE GARAGE a better place for everyone involved.

THE GARAGE provides a safe, fun and nurturing environment where participants create their own spaces to interact and acquire a sense of belonging, gain self-esteem, build friendships, explore ideas, try out various roles and cultivate a capacity to enjoy life through the arts, music and dance.

THE GARAGE promotes an inclusive community that provides all participants freedom from discrimination because of race, color, creed, religion, sub-culture, national origin, sex, disability, socio-economic status, affectional orientation, and age. Programs are focused to make sure that ALL youth have a chance to succeed, regardless of their home life or family situation.

What goes on at THE GARAGE?

THE GARAGE offers a full-catalogue of fun and enriching activities that appeal to a wide-range of teenagers. These programs include various after-school activities, such as dance classes, art workshops, homework help, booking meetings for THE GARAGE’s award winning music venue, even pizza parties! The facility also hosts support groups, speakers, awareness benefits and always acts as a safe place where teens can just hang out and feel valued. After school hours are Mondays, Wednesday, and Thursdays from 2:30 – 6:30, free admission, sliding scale for some programs. The music venue typically operates Fridays and Saturdays from 6:00 – 11:30 with admission of $6 to $15.

Who can go to THE GARAGE?

Most after school-programs target ages 13 to 18. During the summer and day’s school is out, THE GARAGE adds weekday programs for 10-12 year olds. The weekend music venue is All Ages, but anyone under the age of 13 must be accompanied by a parent.
