Mobile Wireless Service

Residents and businesses in one area of Burnsville now have wireless broadband access as Frontier Communications announced the activation of their high speed internet service in their Phase One service area. This area is generally located along County Road 42 between McAndrews Road on the north and Southcross Drive on the south. Frontier will be extending their network across the city in phases with completion set no later than November 2008.

Mayor Elizabeth Kautz and Maggie Wilderotter, Chairman and CEO of Citizen Communications, were the first to activate the network during a short ceremony held at Burnsville Fire Station 1 today. Burnsville is one of eight cities in the nation where Frontier is operating a wireless network. One key element of the network is that it will be constructed and operated without the need for any public funding. In addition, the Frontier agreement is non-exclusive which would allow for additional wireless service providers as the market demands.
