Under the leadership of the IT Director, the department has several functions:
  • Research, Evaluation, Planning, Implementation, and Management of IT Infrastructure including:
    • PCs
    • Laptops
    • Mobile devices
    • Smartphones
    • Enterprise Resource Management System (ERMS)
    • Electronic Document Management System (EDMS)
    • Public Safety Systems
    • GIS
    • Recreation Management Software
    • Community Development Software
    • Core telecommunications systems for Voice, Video, Data, and Security Systems
    • E-Government systems
    • Internet Access
    • Public Safety Mobile Command Center
    • Emergency Operations Center
    • SCADA systems
    • Multi-Functional Print Devices
    • Community Television Master Control
    • Network infrastructure elements within all city operations
  • Coordinate Training for all IT systems
  • Ongoing daily operational support and maintenance of all IT systems
  • Provide leadership for City in local, regional, and statewide telecommunications/infrastructure and data sharing initiatives: DCC, CJIIN, LOGIS, State of MN Office of Enterprise Technologies
  • The primary role of the IT department is to support the effective and efficient delivery of all city services. Key IT activities and programs supporting this End Statement and Outcomes include: Broadband governance process
    • Dakota Communication Center (DCC) operations
    • Fiber optic wide area network infrastructure
    • Facilities security system enhancements
    • Local area network infrastructure
    • Remote access management/development
    • Network security management
    • Employee training
    • Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
    • Mobile data computers in police/fire depts.
    • Web site support for Internet/Intranet
    • Police/fire computer aided dispatch and records management systems coordination and strategic development
    • Internet/Intranet access management
    • Management of vendor contracts
    • Email/desktop systems management
    • Systems evaluation, acquisition, deployment
    • Integrated telephony services
    • Electronic document management system
    • Voice over IP enterprise phone system
    • City Wireless systems support/solutions
    • Enterprise Resource Management System
    • Support of CJIIN initiatives
    • Support of HiPP initiatives
    • Emergency operations/disaster recovery
    • Support of “Public” Wi-Fi system within City Facilities
    • Manage city fiber optic infrastructure for public and private uses
